Community Centers plugged into computer training
Computers for Children Inc.'s pilot "Technology Transfer Program," funded by the John R. Oishei Foundation, will benefit 12 community centers of the Buffalo Community Center Collaborative. Students in grades 7-12 are trained to build and troubleshoot problems with computers. The students also learn Web design skills and applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint in the four-week program. "We get a lot of requests from local agencies, other community centers, not-for-profits or churches requesting a computer to be donated," said Latricia Chisolm, Computers for Children development director. As many as 20 students may build computers of their own to take home.
